Submitting Your Short

SUBMISSION ESSENTIAL STEPS

1) EXPORT YOUR VIDEO. Export your video (from whatever software you used to create the short) and save it in a relatively small file (approx. 25-100 MB). The submission tool is going to try to compress the video on your computer before uploading it, but this has the greatest chance of success if your file is small to begin with.

2) CHOOSE A FILE FORMAT THAT IS NATIVE FOR YOUR COMPUTER. Windows Media is the native media format for Windows and QuickTime is the native format for a Macintosh Computer.

3) UPLOAD YOUR VIDEO. All entries must be submitted by uploading. Upload your video into the correct category, either Scholarly Shorts or Scholarly Serials. There is a link for each under Submit Your Short in the left-had navigation.

4) LEAVE YOUR BROWSER WINDOW OPEN UNTIL SUBMISSION IS COMPLETE. If you close your browser window, your submission/upload will abort. It might take a little time so be patient.

5) ALL THE IMAGES, VIDEOS, AND SOUNDS USED IN THE SHORT MUST BE CLEAR OF COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS. Information on copyright and fair use is available on the Office of General Councel web site:  http://www.ogc.harvard.edu/copyright_docs/copyright_and_fair_use.php. By uploading your submission, you are agreeing that this is true.

6) TITLE AND DESCRIPTION. Please fill out a title and description for your short. DO NOT include your name or any of the names of your team members. We want the judging to be done anonymously.

7) TEAM SUBMISSIONS. We will only have a record of the person who submitted the short, please email us if you are working in a team at harvardshorts2011@gmail.com (yes, this address still works in 2012.)

8) CHECK OUT THE COMPETITION. Have a look at the top nominations over the summer, and vote for the short in each category that you think will take first place. If you choose correctly, you'll be entered in a drawing for a chance at additional prizes.

If you are experiencing problems, please check the Troubleshooting Guide.
